¿Sabes qué significan THERE IS y THERE ARE? ¿Sabes cuándo se usan? Observa las siguientes oraciones.

A: Excuse me. Is there a bakery near here?

B: Sure. There is a bakery across from the library. There is another one in front of the theater. There are two bakeries in town.

You use there + be to express existence.

Both THERE IS and THERE ARE mean HAY.

There is se utiliza cuando nos referimos a un solo objeto o a una lista de objetos que comienza mencionando uno en singular.

There are se utiliza cuando nos referimos al plural, o sea dos o más objetos.

Por otra parte

How many ... significa ¿Cuántos, cuántas?

Sandra: How many hotels are there in your place?

Sonia: There are only two hotels in my neighborhood.

Sandra: and, how many schools are there?

Sonia: There is a secondary school and two elementary schools.
